Boxing promoter, Eddie Hearn has announced that two-time heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua is set to face either Daniel Dubois or Tyson Fury in his next fight.
This development comes on the heels of Anthony Joshua’s recent and dramatic defeat, where he aimed to reclaim his status as a three-time world champion.
In an unexpected turn of events, Dubois dropped Joshua multiple times during their clash at Wembley Stadium, which was witnessed by a staggering 98,000 fans. The fight culminated in Round 5 with a powerful right-hand punch from Dubois, leaving Joshua sprawled on the canvas and marking the fourth loss in his professional career.
In light of this setback, Joshua is determined to get back on track and regain his world champion status. Hearn has mentioned that a rematch between the two British boxers could potentially take place on February 22, 2025.
While a fight against Dubois is on the table, Hearn has not dismissed the possibility of Joshua stepping into the ring with Tyson Fury, a matchup that has generated considerable buzz for years.
“It’s an odd sentiment to express following a knockout defeat, but AJ is positioning himself quite well,” Matchroom’s Hearn stated during an interview with BBC Sport. “We are focused on fighting either Dubois or Fury next. There are no alternative options or warm-up fights on our agenda.”
Fury, who has been consistently linked with a blockbuster fight against Joshua, is scheduled to face unified champion Oleksandr Usyk on December 21 after having lost to Usyk earlier in May.
