Former senate president, Senator Ahmad Lawan, has empowered 400 traders and small business owners in the Yobe North Senatorial District with N100 million to boost their businesses.

The empowerment programme was held in Gashua, the headquarters of Bade local government area in Yobe State.

In a statement issued to newsmen yesterday in Abuja by Dr Ezrel Tabiowo, media adviser to Senator Ahmad Lawan, it was disclosed that each beneficiary received N250,000 as part of the initiative.

Speaking at the event, Senator Lawan said the intervention was aimed at supporting small businesses and promoting economic growth in the senatorial district.

“As your representative in the Senate, I am deeply committed to supporting the economic prosperity of Yobe North. I firmly believe that by empowering our traders and small business owners, we are not only investing in their livelihoods but also laying the foundation for a more vibrant and sustainable local economy,” he said.

He added, “Today, we are distributing a total of N100 million to support your businesses. This free funding will provide beneficiaries with much-needed capital to expand their businesses.”

Lawan emphasised that the beneficiaries were carefully selected based on their potential to contribute to the local economy.

He highlighted the importance of ensuring the funds were used effectively, noting that his foundation, the Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan (SAIL) Foundation, had implemented mechanisms to monitor the disbursement and utilisation of the funds.

“We want to ensure that every kobo is used for its intended purpose and that it contributes to the growth and development of our local economy,” he said.

The former senate president also commended the organising committee for their exceptional work in facilitating the event.

He extended his gratitude to the Yobe State government for its support of the initiative.
