Jamal Simmons, who served as Vice President Kamala Harris‘s communications director from January 2022 to January 2023, has suggested that President Joe Biden should consider resigning to allow Harris to become the first female president.
In an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Simmons stated, “Joe Biden’s been a phenomenal president; he’s lived up to so many of the promises he’s made. There’s one promise left that he could fulfill, being a transitional figure. He could resign the presidency in the next 30 days, make Kamala Harris President of the United States.”
This suggestion comes in the wake of the recent U.S. presidential election held on November 5, 2024, in which former President Donald Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris.
Trump secured victories in key swing states, including Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, leading to his election as the 47th President of the United States. He is scheduled to be inaugurated in January 2025.
Simmons’s proposal reflects ongoing discussions within the Democratic Party about leadership transitions and the future direction of the party following the recent electoral defeat.

The Washington Post reported on Sunday that Trump talked by phone on Thursday with Vladimir Putin, telling him not to inflame the Ukraine conflict.
Putin’s Press Secretary, Dmitry Peskov, told journalists that the report was “completely false information”.
