Former commissioner for Special Duties and member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Local Government Elections Committee in Kwara State, Mal. Razaq Lawal has said the September 21, 2024 local government poll in the state will be a walk over for all the APC’s candidates.
He said the achievements of the state governor, AbdulRahaman AbdulRazaq in the last five years will give all the APC’s chairmanship candidates in all the 16 local government areas and the councilorship candidates in all the 193 wards of the state a smooth sail in the election.
But the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in the state charged the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC) to ensure a level playing ground for all the political parties that will participate in the forthcoming election.
The PDP made the call in a statement signed by its publicity secretary,Mr Olusegun Adewara.
The APC chieftain, Lawal, who is also the chairman of Alliance For Sustainable Kwara (ASK), while speaking in Afon, Asa local government area of the state yesterday, said the state governor has made it easy for the APC to win the local polls in the state.
Speaking on the sidelines of an empowerment programme for widows and youths organised by Hon. Suleiman Lekan Gadaff, Lawal said “Governor AbdulRahaman AbdulRazaq has made it easy for us to win this coming local government elections because of his numerous laudable achievements in the areas of infrastructures, human capital development, education, health, assistance to entrepreneurs, civil servants welfare, respect for the traditional institution, women and youths empowerment programmes, amongst others.
“Definitely, whoever that loves development and loves Kwarans must appreciate Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his giant strides in the last five years,” Lawal said.
He, however, urged APC members across the state to complement the governor’s efforts at making life more comfortable for the people of the state, commending Hon. Suleiman Gadaff for organising the empowerment programme.
In its statement, the PDP party expressed concerns over a suspected unholy alliance between the electoral body and the ruling APC in the state.
“The PDP is pleased to declare that our party is fully prepared for the upcoming elections. Consequently, we have not requested any adjustments to the election timetable previously released by KWASIEC.
“Our commitment to a transparent and timely electoral process remains steadfast, and we are confident in our readiness to participate under the current schedule,” the party said.
