FC Porto have secured the signing of Samu Omorodion from Atletico Madrid for a reported fee of €15 million.

The deal involves Porto acquiring 50% of Samu Omorodion’s commercial rights, with Atletico Madrid retaining the other 50%. There are also provisions for additional acquisitions of percentages in the coming years.

Samu Omorodion, aged 20, has committed to a five-year contract with FC Porto, lasting until the summer of 2029. This makes him the third signing for Porto during this summer transfer window, following the acquisitions of Francisco Conceição and Deniz Gül.

A release clause of €100 million has been included in Omorodion’s contract, underlining the club’s commitment to the player.

Omorodion will sport the number 9 shirt at FC Porto, previously worn by renowned players such as Vincent Aboubakar, Radamel Falcao, Benni McCarthy, and Luís Fabiano.

It’s noteworthy that the move to FC Porto marks a significant turn of events, as Samu Omorodion was initially linked with a move to Chelsea. The transfer to the English club failed to materialize due to contract issues and reports of an injury sustained by Omorodion just before Spain’s Olympics final over France.

Although he did not make a senior appearance for Atletico Madrid, Omorodion gained valuable experience during his loan spell at Deportivo Alaves, where he made 35 appearances, scoring 8 goals and providing 1 assist in all competitions.

After sealing his move to Porto, Samu Omorodion said: “It is an honour to be part of a club with the enormous history of FC Porto. I know the responsibility of playing here, where forwards such as Gomes, Jardel, Falcao, and Jackson Martínez have played, but I know I am ready.”

Note that Samu Omorodion, who was born to Nigerian parents, is eligible to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Spain, his place of birth.
