Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected to pay a one-day working visit to Nasarawa State on Friday, January 3rd, 2025.

Governor Abdullahi Sule announced the impending visit by the country’s number two citizen in Lafia.

The governor said the vice president is expected to perform the groundbreaking ceremony to construct the head office of the Nasarawa Investment Development Agency (NASIDA) and the Multi Outdoor Court, which the World Bank funded through a $4m facility.

According to Governor Sule, the vice president will also hand over tractors and distribute rice seedlings to the chairmen of the 13 local government areas for cultivation as part of the state and federal government’s good security initiative.

He said each local government leadership would be encouraged to cultivate some hectares of land as part of the ongoing efforts to boost food production nationwide.

As part of the state visit, the vice president will also flag off the distribution of relief materials to internally displaced persons affected by floods.

The governor revealed that the state government received about N3bn from the federal government to support flood victims and the IDPs.

He noted that the relief materials initiative was part of an effort to cushion the flood disaster’s impact on the state’s people.

Mr Shettima will also participate in the ceremony, culminating in the graduation of over 1,000 trained Wing Commander Ibrahim Abdullahi Vocational and Technical Institute technicians.

“The VP is very interested in showing that the rice we cultivated in Jangwa is continuous, not just for one season. We will distribute rice seedlings to every local government area, and all the chairmen are expected to come and collect their share. Just like the state does in Jangwa and Agwatashi, the chairmen will replicate the same by cultivating some hectares, 500 or 1000, in their respective areas.

“Also, we have received about N3bn from the FG to support flood victims and the IDPs. NASEMA and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs bought most of the items given to them. The VP will participate in distributing these items,” he stated.

The governor also explained that the vice president is expected to pay homage to the palace of the Emir of Lafia, HRH Justice Sidi Muhammad Bage (rtd).
