We Won’t Tolerate Attacks On Wike, APC Group Warns Fubara, Ugochinyere

The prominent youth faction of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) issued a stern warning on Friday to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and what they termed “Fubara’s agents in the National Assembly.”

The group, known as the APC Pro-Active Youth Network (APC-PAYN), criticised Honourable Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, who represents the Ideato North/South Federal Constituency of Imo State, for his ongoing verbal attacks on Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Ugochinyere, an opposition lawmaker, has been vocal in his criticisms of the FCT Minister while consistently backing Governor Fubara’s actions in Rivers State.

This warning from the APC follows Ugochinyere’s recent media appearance, during which he accused Wike of attempting to obstruct Governor Fubara’s access to state funds through court orders allegedly initiated by the APC and pro-Wike factions.

Ugochinyere claimed, “The APC and pro-Wike group are currently filing a lawsuit in the Federal High Court to seize the entire allocation meant for Rivers State. This marks the second such case from the Wike group aimed at creating constitutional chaos.”

He further alleged that there is an ongoing case to take control of Rivers’ allocation and local government funds, while urging President Bola Tinubu to intervene on behalf of his minister.

In response, APC-PAYN, in a statement signed by President Charles Ibekwe and Secretary General Abubakar Ganiyu, condemned both Governor Fubara and Rep. Ugochinyere, suggesting that they fear accountability and transparency.

“Both have shown a reluctance to embrace public accountability, blaming their failure to conduct proper local government elections on external factors,” they stated.

“The APC will no longer accept attacks on the FCT Minister, His Excellency Nyesom Wike, who is tirelessly working to advance the APC government and serve the people of Nigeria with his infrastructure initiatives in the FCT.”

They questioned, “Why are Fubara and Ugochinyere evading accountability and resorting to blackmail against the judiciary, the FCT Minister, and others, while avoiding addressing their own shortcomings?”

The group expressed concerns over certain activists who, lacking legitimate sources of income, resort to blackmail, noting that some of these individuals have infiltrated the National Assembly.

“It is time for the people of Ideato Federal Constituency to urge their lawmaker to focus on his responsibilities. If he struggles with the principles of lawmaking, he should not hesitate to acknowledge his limitations and allow a more capable representative to take his place,” they added.

The APC youth group threatened to occupy the National Assembly if Speaker Tajudeen Abbas does not rein in Ugochinyere and prevent further attacks or unbecoming conduct against the FCT Minister, whom they regard as a vital asset to the APC and the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope agenda.”
